Total Chlorine

Total Chlorine (TC) is the sum of Free Chlorine and Combined Chlorine. A high TC level could indicate the presence of unwanted chloramines.

TC reflects the total amount of chlorine present, both active (free chlorine) and inactive (combined chlorine or chloramines).
High TC levels, particularly with a low FC level, indicate the presence of chloramines, which are ineffective sanitizers and can cause eye and skin irritation.
Regular testing of TC and FC is important to ensure proper sanitation and comfort.
If TC is high and FC is low, a shock treatment may be necessary to get rid of chloramines.
Generally, the TC level should not be higher than the FC level by more than 0.2 ppm. If it is, it's a sign that your pool may need shock treatment.
